So What's SPA All About?
Our Philosophy
We believe that anyone can prevent suicide, because we know that the relationships we have with others provides each of us the ability to support them in a time of need.
We are dedicated to taking the guesswork out of what questions you should ask, by providing you with the most efficient and reliable way to assess the situation and response accordingly.
We stand by the fact that when you are able to understand an individual's safety concerns, you will be better prepared to provide lifesaving support.
Why the APProach?
Technology has permeated every aspect of our daily lives, and we think it would be foolish not to consider the role it can play in helping to prevent suicide.
According to WHO in 2016 suicide was the 2nd leading cause of death in the world for people ages 15 - 29, therefore we feel it's pertinent to place the right tools in the hands of individuals capable of providing lifesaving support.
By empowering individuals with a handheld tool that will increase their skill set and knowledge to address suicide, we believe we will be able to slow, and hopefully reduce, the increasing rates of suicide worldwide.
What's our novelty?
In 2016, SPA launched as the world's first publicly distributed suicide screening tool that identifies safety and protective factors. With single click access, users can connect with resources anywhere in the world.
Our design and development stem from a cross-pollination of seasoned professionals and individuals with real-world lived experiences.
SPA has become a driving force for social impact, and supported by invaluable data that we use to inspire our continued evolution.
The Road Ahead
We've been continually thinking of innovative ways to integrate current and emerging technology to tackle the global pandemic of suicide.
Our current approach is the foundational design that we intend to use to inspire the next generation of innovative suicide prevention solutions.
We expect to influence future research, support the utilization of both conventional and unconventional resources to treat mental illness, and drive people to further expand their human potential to save lives.
